All families purchase home appliances. With the development of technology, lighting fixtures have added some basic functions. We’ve seen the gradual emergence of dimmable tune, the color temperature, the human body sensors and other kinds of intelligent products. Whether you light for lighting purpose or to create an atmosphere, it always is reflected on the human eyes. If the lamp fails to provide effective light or provide harmful light, it may hurt people’s eyes very badly. Therefore, some basic things should be kept in mind when choosing an LED light. Let us talk about the light source first. There are different kinds of lamps- incandescent light, halogen lamp, fluorescent lamp, energy saving lamps and LED lamps.

Let's get started with the Incandescent lamp.

  1. The working principle: It’s also known as tungsten filament incandescent lamp. Current produces a lot of heat through the filament, making the filament temperature rise up to 2,000 degrees Celsius during the incandescent state, so called incandescent.
  2. Advantages: Incandescent lamp is similar to sun light. The color is good, color rendering index of 99 to 100; and it’s affordable.
  3. Disadvantages: 10% of electrical energy consumed by Incandescent lamp actually converts into light, while the rest are scattered in the form of heat, and life is usually not more than 1000 hours. Two words: not energy, short life.

Summary: Although cheap and incandescent color is good, it has short life of large power. Mostly produce heat energy, far less than the performance of the new generation of the new light source. It has been asked to gradually withdraw from the market.

SECOND:- THE HALOGEN LAMP (popularly known as lamp cups, cuplights, spotlights)

Lamp cup is used as the most common household lighting.

  1. The working principle: It is a variant of incandescent bulbs in principle. It injects iodine or bromine and other halogen gases at high temperatures and sublimation of tungsten halogen chemical action, tungsten cooling after re-solidification of the tungsten wire. It is an equilibrium cycle. Tungsten avoids premature breakage. Therefore live longer than incandescent halogen bulbs.
  2. Advantages: Relatively close to the continuous spectrum of sunlight with good color rendering. Its color rendering index is of 95 or more. The price is relatively cheap. Small size, light control is good, so very suitable for the projection of lighting applications.
  3. Disadvantages: It doesn’t change the nature of the incandescent lamp or the heat-emitting. Most dissipated as heat, light conversion efficiency is not high. Life expectancy has increased to 2000-4000 hours, not bad.

Summary: Cheap and good in color. It’s small in size with good light control. Suitable for using in projection lighting needs. Color reproduction of illuminated objects requires a relatively high place.

As an alternative LED Lamp Cup light has captured the market. However, the color and the ability to control light have made this Super Visual Halogen Cup expensive. If the price is acceptable, these LED lights can be bought as a replacement of, but not the cheap LED lights Cups.


  1. The working principle: It’s also known as fluorescent lamp. Within the fluorescent lamp is filled with argon gas and a small amount of mercury inside of the tube is coated with a phosphor. Gas discharges lamp in the process of releasing ultraviolet light, UV-absorbing phosphor after the release of visible light.
  2. The advantages: Revolution in efficiency. The luminous efficiency of fluorescent lamps is better than incandescent lamps.
  3. Disadvantages: Relatively poor color rendering, especially in the early non-tri-phosphor fluorescent lamp. Fluorescent lamps contain mercury and other harmful elements. It’s also to some extent harmful to the environment. Also UV radiation and flicker will cause harm to the human eye.

Summary: With the growing concern for health and environmental protection, the harmful effect of fluorescent lamps has come under criticism.

Currently considering the very low price factor of LED lamps, LED at present is gradually replacing the original fluorescent tubes, especially with the slot in the lamp inside. But still special attention should be paid to the hazards of blue LED product. Do not purchase blue and glaring LEDs for health and radiation impact.


  1. The working principle: energy-saving lamps are compact, self-ballast fluorescent lamps.
  2. The Advantages: Small in size, energy saving than incandescent, and life expectancy is longer than incandescent lamps. Very cheap prices because of government subsidies, but in supermarkets these are sold expensively. LED prices have been lower in the stores than the energy-saving lamps.
  3. Disadvantages: Color rendering index is low, seeing things can seriously be discolored. Fragile, which has added mercury, and there is no good mechanism for recycling therefore environmental pollution cannot be ignored. Energy-saving lamp ballasts for use in momentary high pressure produce certain electromagnetic radiation.

Summary: Very popular, very popular, and very popular! CFL gives our lives a lot of convenience, but it also brings a lot of problems: mercury pollution, strobe and electromagnetic radiation. Visual will be fully replaced by LED products.


  1. The working principle: LED light-emitting diode is a way to convert electrical energy into visible light. Solid-state semiconductor devices can convert electricity directly into light.
  2. The advantages: High luminous efficiency than incandescent and fluorescent lamps and longer life as they light up to 100,000 hours. These assumptions are all in theory. The actual LED product is substantially 30000-50000 hours. It’s not actually a problem for home because it’s enough. But best part is LED has no UV and infrared radiation; does not contain lead, mercury and other pollution elements.
  3. Disadvantages: LED lighting quality on the market varies greatly. There are many brands of LED with very cheap rates. Cheap rates are not the problem but the quality low-priced products are really alarming.

Summary: LED has obvious advantages of energy-saving, environmental protection, and health security. In future it’s bound to become the mainstream lighting. The future of LED is bright but the path is still not so convenient for a smooth journey for LED.

Here are the tips to choose the right and best LED bulb in the market.
  1. You feel uncomfortable? Not sure? Do not buy!
  2. Put your hand just under the light bulb. Do you see your palm looks rosy or reddish? Do not buy!
  3. Use a mobile phone in front of the lamp. The flash looks powerful? Do not buy!
  4. Listening to the buzzing? Do not buy!
  5. The price is too cheap? Cheapest aren’t always the best. Do not buy!
  6. Not marked on the packaging of these parameters: Power (W), luminous efficiency (lm / w), color temperature (K), color rendering index CRI, do not buy!
  7. Color rendering index is CRI <80? Do not buy!
  8. The color temperature greater than 5000K (home doing with this badcolor temperature)? Do not buy!

As a new generation of lighting, LED, fluorescent and energy-saving lamp’s higher luminous efficiency is far better and greater than incandescent lamps, and more environment friendly.

Now, have a look on luminous efficiency.

But before the introduction to luminous efficiency, let’s talk about power.

When we buy lamps or light sources, we ask stores “Give me 50 watts lamp”, or directly, said “I want a 15-watt light bulb.” The power of the data, index reflects only the power, but we really want the subtext” There is the brightness “of light.

So the question is, in all the 15-watt incandescent, fluorescent, energy saving lamps and LED lights, illumination produced is not the same, but very different. Why is that?

It is because different types of lamps of the same power do not necessarily have the same luminous flux.

Light flux is the amount of light emitted per unit time, measured in lumens. This value reflects the number of visible light the human eye can actually receive. The number means it is a person’s perception as a reference parameter is “the brightness” objective expression.

Therefore, we can tell the store worker said: “I want a ** lumens bulb.” But not many can understand the demand of store worker. You won’t get too many products indicating the number of lumens on the packaging.

Tip: Check the lamp packaging. On the top generally there is a power (W), and a luminous efficiency (in lm / W) section which can be converted into a luminous flux (lm). There are also direct luminous fluxes (lm as a unit in that). Rather the number of tiles on the packaging and how much light flux (lm) lamp should be bought is the most important.

Generally speaking, in order to experience the natural life, the amount of light emitted by a 60W incandescent lamp is about 600lm, with reference to the feeling that you bought the right one.

Nevertheless, we still need to look at the luminous efficiency. Luminous efficiency of a light source is a parameter, which is the ratio of luminous flux and power. Different types of light sources have different luminous efficiency. Generally speaking, the luminous efficiency of incandescent lamps is about 10-15 lm / W, fluorescent lamps (including energy saving lamps) have luminous efficiency of 50 to 100 lm / W, while the LED lamps have the widest, mostly in between 60 to 120 lumens / watt range.

Thus, from the principle, to achieve the same luminous flux, LED lights only need less power, and therefore said LED lamp is a new generation of energy saving light.
